winging it

For some reason this season feels like I am just winging it.  I'd like to think that I confidently know what I am doing by now, but the reality is that I'm a little overwhelmed by the giantness that was the expansion this year.  Nearly doubling the size of your garden will do that--definitely a case of not taking my own advice.

So my succession planting is a lot less organized this season.  I have high hopes for next year--I mean, what will I do with all the free time if I'm not building fences and raised beds?  I have one patch left in the hoop garden for another planting of beets and carrots, etc.  Plus spring greens are in the process of coming out, with garlic following fairly soon.  So maybe I still have a chance to get back in the game.

And of course, the good news is, the garden IS bigger.  Lots of good stuff on the way.  Some of it's already here!

  1. Ooooh, Dilly scapes! Interesting idea, you must let me know how they turn out! Have you had them before or is this a big experiment? Huh, my scapes are just beginning, but the dill is non-existent, I'd need to buy some....

  2. I googled around, and the consensus seemed to be to use the dilly bean or pickled asparagus recipe, both were 50/50 vinegar/water brines, so I figured that was safe. I only had dill leaves (half the weeds in my paths are dill, ha!) and of course today they are now heads in another volunteer patch!
